Palm size for protein portions - just the palm, not including your fingers!
Fist for your veggie portions
Cupped hand for your carbs - this includes fruit as well as grains/starches. Fruit is a carbohydrate!
Thumb size for your portions of fat (i.e. 8 almonds)
Ladies, it's up to you whether you follow this guidance or not. It's an excellent way of keeping things in control, especially when you're allowing yourself to eat the "naughty" things as you quite rightly should over Christmas.
Guys, your portion sizes should be double the above: 2 palm sizes for protein, 2 fists for your veggies.... etc etc...
Kick it up a notch: squeezing in a workout before your Christmas parties/lunches/munchies will help keep the metabolsim revved and minimise the belly bulge. And if you're wondering how many fist sizes of Christmas pud you think you should have.... I'll let you figure that one out : )
